Welcome to Modern Nomad, a lifestyle blog for adventurous mamas and their precocious offspring. Monthly, I will be posting tips on travel, parenting, design, creativity, play, health and wellness and shop-able style cues with an eye towards minimalism. Plus I’ll have engaging interviews with inspiring people who are making a difference in their community and actively creating a “new normal.”
Loads of Love,
Tara Parker Tait
Born and raised in Montreal, Canada I was surrounded by tons of joie de vivre, cultural diversity and individuality. The creative energy of my home city sparked my wanderlust and inspired me to travel and work throughout North and South America as a journalist, publicist and as a programmer on cruise ships. Eventually I landed in Vancouver, Canada and got my entrepreneur on co-founding VitaminDaily.com, an online lifestyle magazine for women, which sold to a Canadian media conglomerate in 2013. Simultaneously, I launched Tara Parker Tait PR, a fashion and lifestyle public relations firm that serviced all the biggies including Gap, Michael Kors, Cartier, Brooks Brothers, Joe Fresh and many, many more.
Then I had a baby, suffered from post-partum depression, turned 40 and realized the Universe was telling me that it was time for a change. So I made some big, bold changes: I closed my PR shop, uprooted my family to California and set-out to find a new likeminded community. To manifest this massive shift I have given up a ton (think financial security, my career as I knew it and some pretty sweet luxury goods) but what I’ve gained is so much better. I am happier than I have ever been and so is my little man and my beautiful husband who have been amazing adventurers with me on this wild ride.
These days we live in little beach house, our son attends an inspiring progressive school and my husband, as Creative Director of a global company that creates branded sound strategies (a.k.a. playlists) for luxury hotels is opening an LA office, and gleefully rides his bike everywhere. I am part strategist, part entrepreneur, part blogger, a major progressive education aficionado and one proud mama who wants to help other families make their crazy ass dreams come true.
